"Flash Flood Fury: 11 Soldiers Missing After Cloudburst in Uttarakhand"

On August 5, 2025, a sudden cloudburst over Dharali village in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand triggered a devastating flash flood, sweeping away homes, roads, and part of an Indian Army camp near Harsil. The flood, caused by the overflowing Kheer Gad river, left behind collapsed structures, broken bridges, and massive landslides across the region.

Four civilians were confirmed dead, and over 60 people were reported missing—including 11 Army personnel, feared to have been swept away when the floodwaters hit their barracks. Two jawans were rescued, but the rest remain unaccounted for, prompting a large-scale, ongoing rescue mission.

Ground operations are being led by NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, and the Army itself, while helicopters remain on standby due to heavy rain and blocked terrain. Around 130 civilians have been evacuated so far, and rescue teams continue digging through debris in hopes of finding survivors.

Officials confirmed there was no prior warning of the cloudburst, and experts say this disaster reflects the growing threat of extreme weather in fragile Himalayan zones. Cloudbursts and flash floods are becoming more frequent due to climate shifts and unplanned development.

Even as they grieve their own missing soldiers, the Army continues rescue work on the ground—tirelessly searching, digging, and saving lives in one of India’s most dangerous terrains.
