Sri Lanka Take Early Lead in T20I Series with Convincing Win Over Bangladesh
Sri Lanka has started the three-match T20I series in strong fashion, defeating Bangladesh by seven wickets in the first encounter at Pallekele on July 10, 2025.
Chasing a target of 155 runs, Sri Lanka put together a commanding performance. Pathum Nissanka exploded with a quickfire 42 off just 16 balls, and Kusal Mendis anchored the chase with a brilliant 73 from 51 deliveries. Their partnership of 78 runs in under five overs seized control early and paved the way for a comfortable 159 for 3, secured with six balls to spare
On the other side, Bangladesh had shown glimpses of fight—Parvez Hossain Emon top-scored with a lively 38, supported by Mohammad Naim’s 32. Still, their total of 154 for 5 fell short of defending
Sri Lanka’s bowlers then stepped up to seal the win. Maheesh Theekshana claimed key wickets, returning figures of 2 for 37, while Dasun Shanaka and Jeffrey Vandersay each chipped in with a wicket apiece
With this victory, Sri Lanka now lead the series 1–0, maintaining momentum after strong performances in the preceding Test and ODI contests .
The second T20I is scheduled for July 13 in Dambulla, followed by the final match on July 16 at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium. Bangladesh will be aiming to bounce back quickly, while Sri Lanka hopes to build on their early dominance.
